A vuggestue is a nursery for children from 6 months to 2 years. Most children start vuggestue when the mother comes off maternaty when the child is 1 year old, but the age at with the children start vuggestue varies alot. In the vuggestue the child belongs to its own group with 8-12 other children, and is cared for by 3-6 adults. The children are in the vuggestue while the parents work, mostly 7-9 hours every day, 5 days a week.
An alternative to the vuggestue is dagpleje (daycare) where the group of children is much smaller than in the vuggestue (3-4 children), and the children is cared for by only one adult.
